Join OUTLaw, Thurgood Marshall Legal Society, and Law Students for Black Lives in a lively lunch discussion about the intersections between LGBTQ and Black identity: Alive and (Un)well-- Health Disparities and the Fight for Health Equity in the Black LGBTQ+ Community. Meet our wonderful speakers below:

LGBTQ-rights attorney Victoria Kirby York is the Deputy Executive Director of National Black Justice Coalition, an organization that works to end racism, homophobia, and LGBTQ/SGL bias and stigma. Mrs. Kirby York most recently served as the Deputy Director for the Advocacy & Action Department at the National LGBTQ+ Task Force where she managed the policy, organizing, and faith team to queer advocacy around faith, equity, and democracy. She has been organizing in a variety of capacities for over 20 years regarding a number of progressive issues and candidates at the federal, state, and local levels.

Scholar Kevin Haynes is one of Texas Law's very own! In addition to teaching multiple courses at the law school, Professor Haynes sits on the board of Vivent Health, a national nonprofit providing comprehensive healthcare to people living with HIV. He also represents the law school on the University’s Council for LGBTQ+ Access, Equity, and Inclusion. Previously, Professor Haynes served on the Board of Directors for Out Youth, an organization that promotes the physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being of sexual and gender minority youth.

The event is on Wednesday, March 2nd from 12-1PM in TNH 2.138. Interested students may also join the discussion on Zoom. Lunch will be provided, and we hope to see you there!
