    PSCD - Student Bidding Ends

    Hosted annually by the UT Law Career Services Office, Public Service Career Day (PSCD) is the largest public service job fair for law students in Texas. Student bidding ends on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at noon.

    During both days of PSCD, which will be held February 3-4, 2011, public interest and government employers will conduct on-campus interviews for paid and unpaid summer and permanent positions. On day one of the fair, certain employers will also host informational tables in the Law School's Susman Godfrey Atrium from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

    First, second, third-year and/or LL.M. students and alumni up to one year after graduation from all nine Texas law schools are eligible to participate in this program. You must register to use the Texas Consortium Symplicity Module, which is a different module than the UT Law Symplicity.

    Judicial Internships for the Summer

    Judicial internships are open to all students including 1Ls. There are hundreds of summer judicial internship opportunities available throughout the nation. You may be able to receive school credit if you intern for a federal district, federal appellate, or state appellate judge, including receiving three hours of credit for interning at the Texas Supreme Court, Court of Criminal Appeals, and the Third Court of Appeals. UT Law students and judicial advisors, will discuss their judicial internship experiences and how they secured their positions. Panelists include Shawna Williams, 3L (Judge Walters, Oregon Supreme Court); Jackie Lynch, 2L (Judge Atlas, U.S. District Court for Southern District of Texas); Kelly Whitebread, 2L (Bankruptcy Judge Bohm, U.S. District Court for Southern District of Texas); Megan Dagerman, 2L (Judge Alcala, Texas Court of Appeals, First District); Mary Crouter, Assistant Director of the William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law; and Remi Ratliff, Director of Judicial Programs with the Career Services Office.     Law Firm Economics

    A basic knowledge of key economic concepts is crucial to understanding the financial and administrative decisions firm leaders must make to keep a firm on sound economic ground. Steven Schulman, Partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP (Washington, DC) and adjunct professor at the Stanford Law School and the Georgetown University Law Center will tell you how firms operate as well as how to make yourself indispensable.     Pro Bono in Private Practice

    Students interested in making pro bono work an important part of their law firm careers are invited to learn more about the benefits of pro bono work. Steven Schulman, Pro Bono Partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP (Washington, DC) will discuss law firm pro bono programs and the importance of pro bono service in your legal career. Information on Akin Gump’s Pro Bono Scholars Program will also be provided. Akin Gump’s Pro Bono program is now available in Dallas, New York, and Washington, DC. During the first summer, a student will receive $20,000 to work at the public interest organization. Lunch will be served. Co-sponsored by the UT Law Pro Bono Program and the Career Services Office. This consortium event is sponsored by 32 law schools nationwide to facilitate the hiring of highly qualified foreign-trained lawyers enrolled in LL.M. programs at each school. Over 1,100 candidates representing 75+ countries will have an opportunity to be considered for internship and permanent positions in the United States and abroad. The program attracts more than 120 of the top legal employers from around the world. ISIP 2011 will take place on NYU School of Law’s campus in Greenwich Village on January 28-29, 2011.
