    The Texas Law Professional Development Institute: Prepared For Practice is taught by industry experts and practicing attorneys, covering facets of new attorney professionalism most sought after by legal employers. Now in its ninth year, the five-week Institute is promoted widely to employers, many of whom contributed to its content. This must-attend program will help you prepare for your summer clerkship or postgraduate job. The program takes place on Thursdays (January 23-February 20, 2020) from 11:50 a.m.-12:50 p.m. Lunch will be served.

    Public Service Career Fair

    Hosted annually by the Texas Law Career Services Office, Public Service Career Fair (PSCF) is the largest public service recruitment program for law students in Texas.

    During both days of PSCF, which will be held Thursday, February 6-Friday, February 1, 2020, public interest and government employers will conduct on-campus interviews for paid and unpaid summer and permanent positions in the Career Services Interview Suite and around the rest of the law school.

    On Thursday, February 6, certain employers will also host informational tables in the Law School's Susman Godfrey Atrium from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

    Public Service Loan Forgiveness

    Many government and nonprofit professionals stand to gain tens of thousands of dollars of student debt relief from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program established by the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. But the program requirements can be confusing. Heather knows how to break it down step-by-step so it makes sense once and for all. A former capital defense attorney with law school debt, Heather Jarvis (askheatherjarvis.com) now dedicates her expertise to helping student loan borrowers make better decisions so that higher education can be a reality for all - not just those who can afford it. Specializing in training for high-debt borrowers and the people who love them, Heather has provided guidance and information to thousands of students and alumni.

    Heather Jarvis will be the guest speaker as part of day two of the Public Service Career Fair held at The University of Texas School of Law. The presentation will take place in the Francis Auditorium (TNH 2.114).

    Starting a Career in a Solo/Small Firm

    Introduction to Federal Clerkships

    What is a judicial clerkship you might be wondering? Or perhaps you know what a clerkship is, but are pretty sure that it’s not for you? Or, you’ve known you wanted to clerk since first grade, and want to figure out how to make yourself as competitive as possible? Or, maybe you’re thinking, “SCOTUS or Bust!”? The Clerkship Program will be hosting an introductory program on judicial clerkships on Thursday, February 13th at 3:30pm in both TNH 2.138 and 2.139. Both rooms will be joined by a group of federal judges to talk about why clerkships are particularly valuable, what they look for in clerks, and how the role of a clerk varies in different chambers and types of federal courts.     One-on-One Meeting with Mark Greenberg

    Interested students can meet directly with Mark Greenberg, Senior Fellow at the Migration Policy Institute, after his lunch-time discussion [Title TBD by WWJC].

    From 2009-17, Mr. Greenberg worked at the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ACF includes the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which has responsibility for the refugee resettlement and unaccompanied children program, and has a strong research agenda relating to the programs under its jurisdiction. Among these are a wide range of human services programs, including Head Start, child care, child support, child welfare, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
