Description
This course is about the making and applying of Texas statutory law, more from the perspective of the legislature than the courts. The Texas Legislative Council Drafting Manual, together with the Texas Code and Laws Construction Acts, as well as Texas case law, are emphasized for drafting and interpretation purposes. The Texas legislative process is examined in depth, and the course includes guest speakers experienced in various aspects of this process. Similar to mock trial teaching, student teams will draft, present, and oppose bills at mock committee hearings. LAW 396K (Legislation) and LAW 479M (Legislation) may not both be counted for credit. Course material is the same.Instructors
