Description

The Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments have been described as the Nation's "second founding," which amounted to a revolution in the economic, social, and political realms. This course will not focus upon historical developments from the 1860s, but instead will trace the interpretive development of the Reconstruction Amendments through the modern era. The following topics will receive particular emphasis: citizenship, equal protection, education, and voting. In addition to judicial decisions, the readings will draw upon law review articles and other secondary sources.
