Description

Corporate Environmental Law is a two credit course addressing the practice of environmental law on behalf of regulated businesses. The course emphasizes the environmental lawyer's role in transactions, compliance counseling, auditing, permitting, administrative enforcement, cleanups, policy, and rulemaking. While the course will necessarily impart some information about the substantive environmental laws that inform this area of practice, the principal goal of the course is to provide an understanding of how businesses operate under our system of environmental agencies, laws, and regulations, highlighting the procedural and practice aspects most relevant to environmental lawyers working with regulated businesses. Prior coursework (law, other graduate school, or undergraduate course) in environmental law, or work experience related to the environment is a prerequisite. There will be weekly reading assignments and class discussions. Grading will be based primarily on an in-class final examination.
