This course introduces international students to the concepts of law fundamental to, and the legal institutions operating within, the United States legal system. The course will include an overview of the U.S. Constitution and of the functions and procedures of civil and criminal courts, an introduction to statutory interpretation, and core concepts in tort and contract law.
All LL.M. students who do not have a J.D. degree are required to take this course unless the requirement is waived. The requirement will be waived by the Director of the LL.M. program upon request by a student whose prior legal training was in a country with a common law-based system.
International exchange students are also eligible to enroll in this course.
