Students will work with RAICES lawyers for a week over winter break. RAICES has a contract to provide pro bono legal services to unaccompanied migrant children detained at the U.S.-Mexico border and held in an Emergency Reception Center (temporary detention center) located in Carrizo Springs, Texas. Students will help the RAICES staff provide services to the children detained in Carrizo Springs, which may include providing “Know Your Rights” presentations, conducting legal intakes, and making referrals to organizations that may assist the children after their release from detention.
