The bar exam includes 200 multiple choice questions in six basic areas of law, including Conlaw. In this session, students will review basic portions of Con Law with Prof. Erwin Chemerinsky in preparation for the July Bar exam. This multidisciplinary and comparative conference will explore the ambivalent relationship between human rights and property and the extent to which the right to property might advance a human rights agenda. An impressive array of scholars from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and the United States will provide comparative perspectives on such topics as changing conceptions of property, the role of property rights in dispossession and redistribution, and the implications of private titling.

Participating students will have the opportunity to network one-on-one with legal professionals from a variety of practice areas, as well as fellow students, during several short (8-10 minutes) speed networking rounds from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Due to the structure of the program, we request that participants commit to attend the entire speed networking portion of the event from 5:30-6:30 p.m. There will be a reception with hors d’ouevres following the speed networking portion of the event sponsored by Lateral Link. Dress is business casual.

The Texas Young Lawyers Association’s (TYLA) Law Student Outreach Committee will be presenting its job search seminar, "How to Get a Job After Law School: The Unclassified Story," which will give practical advice to students about finding a job. Of note is the seminar’s focus on students who traditionally do not find employment through on-campus interviews. Student attendees will receive a TYLA “Tip Card” that contains advice on networking, interviewing, and building a job search strategy. The Tip Card also contains information about non-legal jobs for lawyers. Pizza will be served. Please RSVP by Monday, March 5, on UT Law Symplicity by selecting the “Events” tab.

The Credit CARD Act of 2009 changed the fine print for credit cards, standardizing billing cycles, restricting interest rate hikes and fees, and protecting vulnerable populations such as teens and sub-prime borrowers. Critics argue that the Act raised interest rates, redistributed the cost of risky borrowers onto reliable borrowers, and cost consumers billions.

The UT Law Student Chapter of the American Constitution Society hosts a discussion with UT Law Professor Angela K. Littwin, a consumer protection, credit card, and bankruptcy expert. Prof. Littwin will speak about the effects of the CARD Act on consumers and lenders, and will offer her insights as to what the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its new director should do next.
