GIDEON’S ARMY (HBO Documentary Films, 2013 Sundance Films Official Selection) follows the personal stories of Travis Williams, Brandy Alexander and June Hardwick, three young public defenders who are part of a small group of idealistic lawyers in the Deep South challenging the assumptions that drive a criminal justice system strained to the breaking point. This program will teach women law students the meaning of organizational power and provide them with an understanding of how to gain and utilize that power in an effective and positive manner to achieve career success.

The PLS lessons are from the 2011 Women’s Power Summit on Law & Leadership. Hear video replays of two of the most thought-provoking panels of the summit. Each video will be followed by a discussion session the subsequent week.

Tom Bohl is an assistant attorney general at the Texas Attorney General’s Office, where he has worked for 21 years, defending state environmental appeals in district and appellate courts, prosecuting civil suits to enforce environmental and public health laws, and representing the state in interstate water matters. Tom will speak about working at a state agency and the attorney general’s internship program. Lunch will be served.

Sometimes law students are told they have two options: a miserable life earning decent money at a law firm, or a rewarding job coupled with a vow of poverty. This isn’t true. Join the Texas Federalist Society on Thursday at Noon to hear from 5th Cir. Senior Judge, Emilio Garza. A UT Law Alum, Judge Garza was appointed in 1991 to serve on the 5th Circuit and achieved senior status in 2012. His name was rumored to be on the short list for the US Supreme Court in 1991 and again in 2005 for the seats ultimately filled by Justice Thomas and Justice Alito.
