    About Lyn Clancy A frequent presenter on water rights, Lyn Clancy is Senior Water Policy at LCRA and is editor-in-chief of the Texas Environmental Law Journal. Her specialties include: Texas water rights, water supply acquisition and development, river management and flood liability, and water policy and planning. Clancy served as chair of the Water Laws committee on the Texas Water Conservation Association and received the President’s Award in 2007. She holds a master’s degree in water resources management and water chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. >

    LRAP Informational Session

    Are you considering opportunities in government service or public interest law? The UT Law Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP), administered by the William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law, provides financial assistance to graduates with educational debt who enter qualifying public service. The UT Law LRAP, coupled with the new federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness and Income Based Repayment programs, will significantly help graduates in public service repay their educational debt.

    Join the Texas Federalist Society Thursday, April 3rd, for free lunch and a great discussion on cloning led by Nikolas Nikas and UT Law Professor John A. Robertson.

    Mr. Nikas is the co-founder, president, and general counsel of Bioethics Defense Fund (BDF), a pro-life public-interest legal and educational organization that advocates for the human right to life and the fundamental right of conscience throughout the United States and abroad.

    Professor John A. Robertson holds the Vinson and Elkins Chair at The University of Texas School of Law at Austin. He has written and lectured widely on law and bioethical issues. He is the author of two books in bioethics The Rights of the Critically Ill (1983) and Children of Choice: Freedom and the New Reproductive Technologies (1994), and numerous articles on reproductive rights, genetics, organ transplantation, and human experimentation. He has served on or been a consultant to many national bioethics advisory bodies, and is currently Chair of the Ethics Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

    Paul Marchegiani, Director of Business Affairs at NBCUniversal, will discuss various careers in entertainment law. He has more than 10 years of high-level legal experience in the entertainment industry and has taught entertainment law classes as an adjunct professor at UC Berkeley and Chapman University. While he has deep knowledge in substantive television and legal affairs knowledge, he also has litigation experience in high-stakes IP, contract, securities, appellate and white collar criminal cases.     Public Service Debt Management

    This workshop is designed for 3Ls entering public interest law, government service, or any other field that qualifies for federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Explore federal loan repayment and loan forgiveness programs and the UT Law Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) in greater depth in a small group setting. Bring your laptops and your questions. Nicole Simmons, Director of Public Service Programs in the CSO, Mary Crouter, Assistant Director of the William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law, and Mario Villa, Director of Student Recruitment and Financial Aid with the UT Law Financial Aid Office will facilitate the session.     Multi-Journal Write-On Competition

    Hosted by the Texas Law Review

    It is time to talk about the multi-journal Spring Write-On Competition! Come to the Auditorium on Tuesday, April 8th at Noon, and learn all you need to know about applying for membership to any one of the twelve journals at the law school. We will discuss the rules and deadlines for the Spring Write-On Competition, as well as the general benefits of journal membership. In addition, representatives from each journal will be there to tell you a little about themselves and answer any of your questions. The Spring Write-On Competition is the only way to apply for membership to some journals, including the Texas Law Review. The event is not limited to 1Ls; 2Ls and transfer students are also welcome.

    As part of the Civil Rights Summit, UT Law and the LBJ School of Public Affairs will co-host a Watch Party for the address by President Barack Obama followed by a Town Hall Q&A discussion. The Town Hall will be moderated by Clinical Professor Ranjana Natarajan, who is also the director of the UT Law Civil Rights Clinic, along with LBJ Visiting Professor Shirley Franklin, former two-term mayor of Atlanta. A student panel will also offer comments on the policy and law implications of the president's remarks.

    Seating in the auditorium will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. An overflow viewing area will be set up in the Tom Clark Lounge.

    The Review of Litigation CLE Training

    This two-hour CLE event will feature a talk from Professors Mark Kincaid and Tracy McCormack about effective mediation strategies for practicing litigators and also address some of the ethical issues that arise in mediation. Afterwards, appellate lawyer Tim Patton will discuss Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 91a motion practice. Attending attorneys will receive 2 hours of CLE credit.

    George W. Bush Watch Party & Town Hall

    As part of the Civil Rights Summit, UT Law students are invited to attend the LBJ School of Public Affairs' Watch Party and Town Hall discussion for "Remarks by President George W. Bush."

    The final presidential address Watch Party will be followed by a Town Hall Q&A discussion in partnership with the Barry Goldwater Society, an LBJ School student organization. Students will offer comments and generate dialogue around the policy and law implications of the former president's remarks.
