    Debate: Judicial Engagement vs. Judicial

    The Texas Federalist Society presents an debate about the proper role for judges in our constitutional order. Sheldon Gilbert from the Institute for Justice will defend judicial engagement and Brantley Starr from the Texas Attorney General's Office will defend judicial restraint.

    GRITS Conference

    GRITS is a student-run public interest law conference that focuses on the difficulties and constraints inherent to social justice work in the South, and the unique strategies that legal practitioners and other public interest workers have developed to meet those needs. The conference emphasizes innovative, progressive, and even radical approaches to building community among students, practitioners, and community activists in the South to bring about social change.

    The conference is an opportunity for law students, lawyers, and activists to build coalitions, share strategies for progressive lawyering, and develop new approaches for the future.

    Legislative Update on Texas Water Issues

    Ken Kramer, Water Resources Chair of the Sierra Club - Lone Star Chapter, and Chris Mullins, Legislative and Policy Consultant, will be talking about water issues addressed in the 2017 Texas legislative session. Ken has been involved in water legislation in Texas for over thirty years, and Chris recently began working with Ken during this past session. Ken will cover groundwater issues, and Chris will cover surface water issues. Both will be great professional contacts for anyone who hopes to pursue water law or any type of environmentally positive lobbying.

    This is the follow-up to the event hosted last year with Ken Kramer. We hope to see you there! Lunch will be provided. Sponsored by the Environmental Law Society and Career Services.

    Come blow off some mid-semester steam with the UT Environmental Law Society, OUTLaw in Austin, TX, Women's Law Caucus and Texas Law ACS at Barton Springs in Zilker Park!

    Bill Bunch, Executive Director of the Save Our Springs Alliance, will give us a tour of the springs and talk about how his organization uses legal action to protect them. After that, we'll go swimming.
