Alternative Curriculum: Do Black Injuries Matter? Race and Tort Law

TNH 3.140 (Jeffers Courtroom)

Issues of race and racism are often absent from scholarly and casebook discussions of tort law. Race and racism, however, have a substantial influence on a broad range of issues within tort law, from the valuation of injuries to the types of tort claims recognized by courts. Join us for a discussion on these and related matters with Professor Melissa Wasserman. Boxed lunches will be provided after the event!

This first installment of Alternative Curriculum this semester takes place in person on Thursday, February 3rd from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm in the Jeffers Courtroom (TNH 3.140)! Masks and social distancing are encouraged.

Heather Jarvis: Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Virtual

As part of the Public Service Career Fair, join Heather Jarvis, attorney and student loan expert for this briefing and dedicated Q&A for borrowers. After you register online, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Scores of experienced public service workers have been frustrated in their attempts to qualify for loan cancellation under Public Service Loan Forgiveness. They were told they had the “wrong kind” of loans or that payments they made “didn’t count” towards the 120 qualifying payments required to earn forgiveness.

On Oct. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education announced a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Limited Waiver Opportunity. For a limited time, restrictive requirements regarding loan type and repayment plan have been waived.

Also, the Biden administration is conducting a negotiated rulemaking process including revisions to the regulations governing PSLF and Income-Driven Repayment. New rules will be finalized and implemented by the summer of 2023.
