As part of the Law School Leaders program, members of the Marine JAG Corps will be available to have meaningful conversations with student and to answer any questions you have about opportunities with the JAG Corps, what the work of a JAG Officer looks like, and how their careers have developed.

Join us for a conversation with Azadeh Shahshahani as she talks about her work in the U.S. South and support for social movements in the Global South as a movement lawyer. She will discuss the theory of change behind movement lawyering, what movement lawyering looks like in practice, and how to prepare for a career as a movement lawyer during law school.

The event will take place in the Eidman Courtroom (CCJ 2.306) from 11:50 AM to 12:50PM. Lunch will be provided in the Jamail Pavilion immediately following the discussion.

Start your preparation for your upcoming legal interviews by attending this workshop. In this one-hour session, you will learn what to expect in a legal interview, hear common legal interview questions, and learn how to build your own answers to impress your interviewers. Leave the program with the tools and the confidence to help you prepare for and nail your interviews.

In-person attendance at one session of this program is required for each student as part of the Professional Pathways Program.

Azadeh is the Legal and Advocacy Director at Project South, where she leads work focused on immigrant rights and racial justice. Before joining Project South, she spent approximately a decade as an immigrants’ rights attorney with the ACLU of Georgia and the ACLU of North Carolina. A past president of the National Lawyers Guild, Azadeh currently serves on the Advisory Council of the American Association of Jurists. She has authored or edited numerous human rights reports, law review articles, and book chapters addressing movement lawyering, immigrants’ rights, the surveillance of Muslim Americans, and the use of international human rights frameworks as tools for liberation.

The reception will offer an informal opportunity to meet Azadeh Shahshahani, learn more about her work, and connect with other students interested in public interest law.
