    Planning for Financial Freedom

    Explore federal loan repayment and loan forgiveness programs and the UT Law LRAP in greater depth in a small group setting.  Preference given to 3Ls entering the public service sector.  To be eligible to attend, participants must have attended “Debt Management for Careers on Public Interest Law and Government” on February 23 or a similar presentation and must submit an application with questions about the programs. Submit applications no later than noon on Wednesday, March 16 to Nicole Simmons in the CSO at nsimmons@law.utexas.edu.

    ACCS General Meeting

    NEW TIME! Attention 1Ls, 2Ls & 3Ls: Expand your professional network by becoming a member of the Action Committee for Career Services! Members of the Action Committee for Career Services (ACCS; pronounced "Aces") partner with the Career Services Office to perform employer outreach, staff on-campus recruiting programs and off-campus receptions, and help develop career-related resources. We'll be discussing the status of the student business cards sales as well as the upcoming Happy Hour with Small & Midsize Firms on April 7.     Becoming a Judicial Clerkship Candidate

    Now is the time for 1Ls to begin preparing to apply for judicial clerkships. Learn what law clerks do; why clerkships help you become a successful lawyer; what judges look for in selecting a law clerk; and what you can do now to become a successful candidate, including which courses to take. Panelists include Todd Bellaire ‘09, Law Clerk to the Honorable Sam Sparks, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas; Olga Kobzar ‘10, Law Clerk to the Honorable Debra Lehrmann, Supreme Court of Texas; and Professor Emily Kadens, Faculty Clerkship Advisor. Etiquette consultant and attorney Sharon Schweitzer from Protocol & Etiquette Worldwide in Austin will discuss the finer points of business dining and protocol over a three-course seated dinner. This free 1L Etiquette Dinner is generously sponsored by Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell, who will be hosting a cocktail reception prior to dinner from 6:15-7:00 p.m. for the 1Ls attending.     Succeeding at the Business of Law

    Whether you are thinking about starting your own practice or planning to work for a firm, come learn the business and practical aspects of succeeding in the new legal market. Attorneys will discuss the nuts and bolts of starting a practice; the technology lawyers need; getting clients, networking, and marketing your practice; law firm economics; and organizing and managing your practice. Additionally, they will talk about their specific practices in civil litigation, family law, criminal law, and business transactions. Panelists include Janet McCullar, Law Office of Janet McCullar; Douglas A. Booth, '92, Law Offices of Douglas A. Booth, P.C.; and Kiele Pace, ’00, The Pace Law Firm, P.C. Additionally, Ian Pittman, ’09, and Leigh Jorgeson, ’09, Jorgeson Pittman, LLP, will discuss their experience of starting a law firm directly out of law school.
