    Public Interest Postgraduate Fellowships

    Learn about some of the more popular project-based fellowships obtained by Texas Law graduates. You’ll learn about the application process and strategies for putting together a competitive fellowship application. Panelists include Anya Morgan, 3L and 2017 Julius Glickman Fellow in Public Interest Law with the Northwest Justice Project; Briana Perez, 3L and 2017 Rollie White Trust Fellow in Public Interest Law with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF); Cristian Sanchez, 3L and 2017 Equal Justice Works Fellow with RAICES; and Meredith Parekh ’11, Staff Attorney with Disability Rights Texas and former Skadden Foundation Fellow. Moderated by Nicole Simmons, Director of Public Service Programs, Career Services Office. The Soros Justice Fellowship will also be discussed.

    OCI: What You Need to Know

    Learn how to succeed in on-campus interviews in the fall. We will discuss how to prepare effective application materials; how to sell yourself in a 20-minute interview; why networking is important and how to do it; professional etiquette tips for receptions, meals, and correspondence; and how to respond to offers. Explore federal loan repayment and loan forgiveness programs and the Texas Law Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) in greater depth in a small group setting.

    Fighting Corruption with State Dep't

    Ms. Lisa Kubiske, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Finance and Development, will be coming to Texas Law to speak about the Economic Bureau’s work fighting corruption and encouraging governments to be open and transparent. In addition, she will discuss how the State Department works with various international financial institutions to promote economic growth and development.

    Ms. Kubiske is a US diplomat with experience in Latin America, China/Hong Kong, and Washington D.C. She has also served as the US Ambassador to Honduras, Deputy Chief of Mission in Brazil, and Deputy Chief of Mission in the Dominican Republic.

    Her experience includes serving as the Western Hemisphere Economics Director at the State Department; Officer in the State Department's Operations Center and Secretariat Staff; Investment Director and Negotiator at the United States Trade Representative's Office (USTR); chief of the Economic-Political Section at the United States Consulate General in Hong Kong; and additional work in Shanghai, China and in Mexico, DF, Mexico.
