I highly recommend the Housing Clinic for three reasons. First, the Housing Clinic allows students to practice real-life lawyering skills that are rarely taught in the classroom. For example, rather than requiring formal litigation, the legal challenges presented by many Clinic clients can be resolved through effective communication with the client’s landlord–a crucial ability for any lawyer. Second, the Clinic allows students to learn from a tremendous practicing attorney, Fred Fuchs, whose guidance and enthusiasm has proved invaluable even after law school. And third, of course, the Clinic empowers students are able make a tangible difference in the lives of community members. The Housing Clinic would be worthwhile for any one of those three reasons, but the combination of all three makes the Clinic a unique opportunity for a law student.
