The Supreme Court Clinic was the highlight of my time at Texas Law.  You work on real cases at the United States Supreme Court, interact with some of the country’s best Supreme Court advocates, and work with wonderful faculty who are committed to having you give your best work to the case.  It’s an exceptional experience; most young lawyers, let alone law students, don’t sit with Supreme Court litigators deciding together whether to file a cert petition or what arguments to make in a Supreme Court brief.  You get to do that in the Clinic, and that’s a level of exposure that most people could not have until they are reasonably senior attorneys.

I regularly find myself using skills from the Clinic.  You learn how to tell whether a case is worth appealing to the Supreme Court, how to find potential cases in the first place, and how to write and review briefs where every word and citation has a purpose.  It’s also an enjoyable experience.  There’s something very satisfying about working with people committed to doing a good job together.  You are also likely to find the professors to be invaluable mentors.  I highly recommend applying.
