Allison H. Benesch

Allison Benesch earned her Bachelor’s degree from George Washington University, a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, and her J.D. from Southern Methodist University. Her early work with families of incarcerated parents sparked a longstanding interest in the impact of the legal system on children and families. She spent 30 years with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, serving as lead attorney in the Child Protective Services unit and later handling child abuse cases in criminal court. She subsequently served for five years as an Associate Judge in Travis County Juvenile Court, gaining a broad perspective on the intersection of the child protection and juvenile justice systems.

Ms. Benesch is quick to say that she learns as much from her students at Texas Law as they learn from her. Each class discussion and every paper written in her Child Protection Issues seminar offers new perspectives and insights. She hopes her students gain as much from her years of experience as she gains from the opportunity to learn from each of them.
