Students work under the supervision of experienced Assistant U.S. Attorneys in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas on a weekly basis for two semesters. By assisting federal criminal prosecutors with their work, students learn about grand jury procedure, drafting indictments, calculating sentences under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, designing undercover operations, selecting a jury, plea bargaining, and responding to evidentiary and discovery objections. Typically students engage in significant legal research and writing, assist with trial preparation, and observe courtroom proceedings.
The program is a two semester commitment. An application is required.
