    On the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, Rebecca Robertson, Legal and Policy Director of the ACLU of Texas will be discussing the past, present, and future of this important Supreme Court decision.     Coffee & Conversation with Olga Kobzar

She’ll be discussing etiquette and professionalism at law firms and in the courts, including helpful hints for those pursuing judicial internships and clerkships. During law school, she served as a judicial intern to Justice James Campbell of the Seventh Court of Appeals of Texas and after graduation served as a briefing attorney for Justice Debra Lehrmann of the Supreme Court of Texas prior to joining Scott, Douglass & McConnico, L.L.P.     Akin Gump Pro Bono Info Session

    Steven Schulman, Pro Bono Partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP (Washington, DC) will discuss law firm pro bono programs and Akin Gump’s Pro Bono Scholars Program. The Pro Bono Scholars Program is a two-year program for outstanding law students who want to make pro bono work an important part of their law firm careers. This program allows students to gain valuable work experience with both pro bono and commercial clients. During the first summer, scholars receive a $20,000 stipend while spending at least seven weeks at a public interest organization of their choice, and three weeks at an Akin Gump office (Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York or Washington, D.C.) assisting with pro bono cases and being paid a summer associate salary. During the second summer, the Pro Bono Scholars are part of the firm’s summer associate program, which will include a commercial workload as well as pro bono opportunities. The Pro Bono Scholars Program will take place in our Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. offices.
