    Townes Hall Morning Coffee

    On Monday, February 1, the Texas Law Alumni Association is pleased to announce that it will kick off its Spring 2016 Townes Hall Morning Coffee for all students every Monday morning. Please bring your favorite travel mug from home (we are “going green,” so no paper products will be provided) and enjoy FREE coffee every Monday morning to start off your week on behalf of the Alumni Association. Coffee will be located at one, large station located near the 1L Classrooms (by TNH 2.140, TNH 2.139, etc.) beginning at 8:45 am.

    DEBATE: Time to Amend the Constitution?

    Governor Abbott recently asked the Texas Legislature to authorize Texas to join with other states in an Article V Convention of States to Amend the U.S. Constitution. Join the Federalist Society for a three-way debate on the merits of this plan. The debate will feature Andrew Oldham (Deputy General Counsel for the Governor of Texas) and Texas Law Professors Levinson and Sager.

    The 5th Annual Texas Law Professional Development Institute: Prepared For Practice is taught by industry experts and practicing attorneys, covering facets of new attorney professionalism most sought after by legal employers.     Gender and the Judiciary

    Professor Pat Chew, the Salmon Chaired Professor and Distinguished Faculty Scholar at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and a University Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award recipient, will discuss her research and findings on the effect of judges' gender in their decision-making, particularly in sex discrimination cases.

    1) Affirmative action and the Fischer decision 2) Ethical issues of advocating for affirmative action 3) The Evenwell litigation and its possible repercussions on voting rights 4) Political power of Latinos in Texas in the years to come 5) Refusal of birth certificates to children born from undocumented parents 6) Affirmative action in the work place
