    The Robert Strauss Center for International Security and Law, UT Austin’s School of Law, and the Open Society Foundation will host the “Courts at War” Conference on September 14th and 15th in the Sheffield-Massey Room. An array of law practitioners, judges, and academics will discuss judicial accountability for U.S. national security and counterterrorism policies.     GRITS is a student-run public interest law conference that focuses on the difficulties and constraints inherent to social justice work in the South, and the unique strategies that legal practitioners and other public interest workers have developed to meet those needs. The conference emphasizes innovative, progressive, and even radical approaches to building community among students, practitioners, and community activists in the South to bring about social change.

    The conference is an opportunity for law students, lawyers, and activists to build coalitions, share strategies for progressive lawyering, and develop new approaches for the future.

    Legislative Update on Texas Water Issues

    Ken Kramer, Water Resources Chair of the Sierra Club - Lone Star Chapter, and Chris Mullins, Legislative and Policy Consultant, will be talking about water issues addressed in the 2017 Texas legislative session. Ken has been involved in water legislation in Texas for over thirty years, and Chris recently began working with Ken during this past session. Ken will cover groundwater issues, and Chris will cover surface water issues. Both will be great professional contacts for anyone who hopes to pursue water law or any type of environmentally positive lobbying.
