Hurricane Harvey: How Law Students Can Help with Disaster Response and Recovery.

Matt McManus, Deputy Director of Public Affairs/Policy at the Bureau of Energy Resources with the State Department, will discuss career opportunities and share what it is like to work at the State Department. The Student Organization Fair, hosted by the Student Bar Association, provides student organizations an avenue to advertise and inform law students, especially 1Ls and transfer students, about the unique opportunities presented by membership in their groups.

Join the American Constitution Society (ACS), CHLSA, and the Student Affairs Office for a lunch discussion on the repeal of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Speakers include professors from the Texas Law Immigration Clinic and University Leadership Initiative.

The Texas Federalist Society will host a debate to discuss Citizen's United, the state of campaign finance, and the First Amendment in honor of Constitution Day. The debate will feature Ilya Shapiro from the Cato Institute and David Jones of Clean Elections Texas. Lunch will be provided!

The Robert Strauss Center for International Security and Law, UT Austin’s School of Law, and the Open Society Foundation will host the “Courts at War” Conference on September 14th and 15th in the Sheffield-Massey Room. An array of law practitioners, judges, and academics will discuss judicial accountability for U.S. national security and counterterrorism policies. This event is free and open to all students and the public.

Student actors perform their rendition of Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" as part of a performance and panel discussion. Reception begins at 6:30pm in the Jamail Pavilion. Performance will follow in the Eidman Courtroom, followed by Panel Discussion.

Plea

Week one of the Fall Litigation Institute (a hands-on, crash course training program in advocacy skills) will focus on the importance of communicating effectively as a lawyer in and out of the courtroom (body language, vocal tone, mannerisms, etc.). The guest speaker will be Len Matheo, founder of Courtroom Performance, Inc. and author of The Lawyer's Winning Edge.

We are studying the book of Ephesians this semester; each week, we will be discussing a new chapter. Breakfast will be provided!

Our goal is to create a safe space for women interested in learning more about Christ through studying and applying God's Word in law school and beyond. Our Bible study is a place for Christian fellowship and encouragement, and women from all Christian faith traditions and denominations are welcome!
