Legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg The Center for Women in Law will host a virtual panel discussion on the legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on February 2, 2021 at 12:00 pm CT.
David Lat, Managing Director, Lateral Link, and Founding Editor, Above the Law will moderate a panel of Justice Ginsburg’s former law clerks. The panel will address Justice Ginsburg’s vision of equality, and how that vision, once groundbreaking, is now accepted in multiple facets of law and society. In addition, the former clerks will discuss how Justice Ginsburg’s mentorship shaped their personal and professional choices, and the ramifications of her leadership on gender parity in the practice of law.

14th Amendment Originalism Please join the Texas Federalist Society as we host Professor Ilan Wurman of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University to discuss his new book titled The Second Founding: An Introduction to the Fourteenth Amendment. Professor Wurman will discuss the original meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment's most famous provisions and provide context for how the Amendment's framers sought to use those provisions to solve some of the 19th century's greatest challenges.
Weighing in on the discussion will be Professor Evan Bernick of Georgetown Law. Professor Bernick serves as the Executive Director of the Georgetown Center for the Constitution.

The CSO is partnering with the State Bar of Texas Tax Section to host So You Want To Be a Tax Lawyer?, a panel discussion about various career opportunities available to attorneys in the area of tax law. Panelists include Abbey Garber, Partner at Thompson & Knight; Adam Flick, Deputy Area Counsel for the SB/SE Area 6, IRS Office of Chief Counsel; Tracy Turner, Attorney at Brusniak Turner Fine LLP; and Brock Whalen, Associate Area Counsel for the IRS Office of Chief Counsel in Austin.
Scholarship Available | Apply by April 16, 2021
The scholarships are $2,000 each and are awarded to students demonstrating academic excellence and commitment to the study and practice of tax law. Any student who is enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school at the time the application is submitted, and who intends to practice tax law in Texas, is eligible to apply.

The program is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL) and is designed to expose law students to the nature of trial practice and to serve as a supplement to their education. It is the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) intent to provide a meaningful contribution to the development of future trial lawyers.
The 2021 Region 10 TYLA NTC will be co-hosted by the University of Texas School of Law and Texas Southern University - Thurgood Marshall School of Law. All competition rounds will be held remotely (via Zoom).
