    ABA Taxation Fellowship Program

    The American Bar Association Section of Taxation is pleased to announce that the application period for its Public Service Fellowship program for 2012-14 is now open. Come learn more about the fellowship application process. Lunch will be served and is sponsored by the ABA Section on Taxation.

    Applications must be received by November 1, 2011 to be considered. Applicants selected for interviews will be invited to attend the Section’s meeting in on February 16-18, 2012, and asked to participate in interviews on February 18, 2012. The Section will award up to two Fellowships for 2011-13 to recent law school graduates or judicial clerks. Both LLM and JD candidates are eligible to apply. The proposed employment must involve taxation or administration of tax law and must be with a public-interest, non-profit section 501(c)(3) organization (the “Sponsoring Organization”). Each Fellow is expected to serve a two-year term with the Sponsoring Organization. RSVP by Monday, September 12, on UT Law Symplicity by selecting the "Events" tab.

    Public Service Fall Party

    The UT Law Career Services Office, William Wayne Justice Center, and Rapoport Center invite you to attend the Sixth Annual Public Service Fall Party. We hope you will come out and share your summer experiences with faculty, staff and other UT Law students. Refreshments will be served.

    If you can come share your experiences with other students, we ask you to RSVP to the CSO by Friday, September 2, on UT Law Symplicity by selecting the "Events" tab. The CSO will then be in touch with you with further details about your role.

    If you plan to attend, but are not interested in having a formal role, please RSVP on UT Law Symplicity between September 3-9. Look for announcements closer to the party date on Law Mail and the UT Law Public Service Listserv.

    PS Table Talk - Dean's Breakfast

    The Career Services Office invites UT Law students and faculty to visit with both Dean Sager and employers who will be participating in Public Service Table Talk. Breakfast will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Sheffield Room. Public Service Table Talk will be held in the Susman Godfrey Atrium from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and is open to all UT Law students.

    Please join us in welcoming public service organizations to our campus and sharing information on new developments within the UT Law public service community. We also hope to exchange ideas on creating more opportunities for students to serve the public.

    Public Service Table Talk

    Representatives from dozens of public interest organizations as well as federal and state government agencies will be on hand to answer questions about what they do and how you can assist them. Find out about volunteer opportunities, summer internships and paid positions with a variety of nonprofits, legal services providers and government agencies. All UT Law students are encouraged to attend.

    Presidential Management Fellowship

    The Presidential Management Fellowship Program is the premier federal fellowship program for graduate students who will be finishing their degrees by August 2012. The purpose of the Presidential Management Fellowship Program is to attract to the federal service outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs. Presented by the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

    Beyond Any Bar's Speaker Series

    Beyond Any Bar, the law student association for students considering a nontraditional careers, is hosting a speaker panel to discuss their path to a successful nontraditional career. If you are thinking that a law firm might not be the best place for you, come hear why you are right! The four panelists are representative of many of our alumni that have used their legal education to succeed in other careers.

    Joining us on at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday September 22, 2011 will be:

    Dan Graham (JD ’05) the CEO and co-founder of BuildASign.com. Dan co-founded BuildASign.com in his 3L year, in 2005. Since then the company has become a $30+ million company, with over 160 employees.

    Kathy Richardson (JD ‘95) a Principal at HR Legal Search. She is an attorney search consultant. She places partners and associates at law firms as well as attorneys at various levels within in-house legal departments, including general counsel.

    Neal Cukerbaum (JD ’77) the President of Sandler Southwest Corporation. Neal is a real estate developer, and he has been responsible for the development of more than 100 commercial real estate properties.

    Robert Mayfield (JD ’72) the President of R.U.M. Enterprises. Robert founded his company and has grown it to 98 employees and six area locations.

    Once again, Dean Sager has generously agreed to sponsor airfare for several current students to attend the Equal Justice Works Conference & Career Fair. To apply for a sponsorship, please submit your resume, unofficial law transcript, and a brief essay (no more than two pages) describing why you would like to attend the Fair and why you need sponsorship.
