In the first hour, learn the tips and tools you’ll need to succeed as a summer associate at a small or large firm. Panelists include Jennifer Poppe '98, Hiring Partner at Vinson & Elkins (Dallas); Gretchen Rollins, Global Hiring Manager, Entry Level, at Vinson & Elkins (Dallas); Amber MacIver '06, Associate at Baker Botts L.L.P. At 4:30 p.m., speak with Tarlton Law Librarians about legal research strategies for summer clerkship assignments. They’ll discuss how to familiarize yourself with your firm's research environment, what questions to ask when you receive an assignment, and best practices for deciding where to start your research. Examples of actual summer assignments from law firms will be presented.

Nicole Simmons, Public Interest Career Counselor with the CSO, along with 3Ls who have secured postgraduate fellowships, will discuss some of the more popular project-based fellowships obtained by UT Law graduates. Panelists will discuss the application process and provide strategies for putting together a competitive fellowship application. Stop by and meet the CSO staff to learn more about what the CSO has to offer including how to find a summer job and prepare for Fall OCI and summer job fairs. The student-run Action Committee for Career Services (ACCS) will be taking confidential feedback, providing one-on-one peer advice about OCI and job fairs, and conducting tours of the Interview Suite so you know what to expect during Fall OCI.

The ACCS will also be accepting applications for the 2012-13 academic year and selling student business cards at a 10% discount. Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by the Action Committee for Career Services.

This is the second of two mandatory meetings for 2Ls and 3Ls who will be applying for judicial clerkships. UT Law Judicial Clerkship Advisors will discuss the clerkship application process in detail including summer deadlines and the two online systems students will be using to apply for clerkships.

A panel of Texas federal judges will discuss judicial clerkships at their courts and what students can do to make themselves competitive clerkship candidates. Panelists include Judge Catharina Haynes, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit; Judge Rodney Gilstrap, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas; Judge Craig Gargotta, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas; and Magistrate Judge David Counts, U.S. Magistrate Court for the Northern District of Texas. Moderated by Dean Stefanie Lindquist. The Clerkship Advisors encourage 2Ls and 3Ls applying for judicial clerkships this year and 1Ls hoping to apply next summer to attend this panel.
