    Equal Justice Works Information Session

    Come learn about Equal Justice Works’ public interest programs and initiatives. Equal Justice Works' Director, Isaac Bowers, will discuss both summer and postgraduate opportunities with Equal Justice Works and options for relieving educational debt after you graduate.

    Topics to be discussed include: Equal Justice Works’ postgraduate fellowship programs (AmeriCorps Fellowships and Equal Justice Works fellowships): how they work; why, how and when to apply; what works; and more. The expansion of the SummerCorps program - AmeriCorps JD. Students can work either over the summer or during the semester and earn an educational award while getting valuable public interest experience and do direct legal services. The annual EJW Conference and Career Fair, which provides a great opportunity to network with fellow students and employers from across the country, as well as obtain a job. The new Student Engagement program and how it is connecting public interest law students across the country. The possibility that Congress may cap Public Service Loan Forgiveness and what is being done to oppose it. How you may become a member of the EJW National Advisory Committee.

    Access to Justice Internship Deadline

    The Access to Justice Internship Program is now accepting applications funding internships during summer 2015 for students working in nonprofit civil legal aid organizations. The deadline for submission is March 31, 2015. This year, we have expanded the guidelines to include applications for interns working in both rural AND urban offices.

    Public Service Debt Management: 3Ls

    This workshop is designed for 3Ls entering public interest law, government service, or any other field that qualifies for federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Explore federal loan repayment and loan forgiveness programs and the Texas Law Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) in greater depth in a small group setting. Bring your laptops and your questions. Nicole Simmons, Director of Public Service Programs in the CSO; Mary Crouter, Assistant Director of the William Wayne Justice Center for Public Interest Law; and Mario Villa, Director of Student Recruitment and Financial Aid at Texas Law will facilitate the session. Students attending should be familiar with the material presented by Heather Jarvis from her presentation, “Public Service Loan Forgiveness in Five Easy Steps” (January 30, 2015; search the CSO eLibrary for a link to the presentation).
