    "Declaration of Intent" Timely Deadline

    The Declaration of Intent to Study Law must be filed by all persons who have begun their law study at ABA-approved schools in Texas and intend to apply for licensure in Texas.

    Your Declaration must be filed or postmarked by October 1st to be considered timely-filed. A $150 late fee will be imposed on all Declarations filed after October 1st.

    The TX BLE office is not open on weekends; if you would like to hand deliver your completed application by the end of the Monday, October 1st business day, the TX BLE office is located at:

    205 W. 14th St. Ste 500, Austin, TX 78701

    You're encouraged to arrive well in advance of the 5 PM closing time.

    Late-filing Declarants may file at any time prior to or concurrent with the filing of their In-State Application to Take the Texas Bar Exam.

    To outline or not to outline? Is that the question? Learn what an outline is and how it can help you. See examples of different forms of outlines. Yes, you have to do it yourself. Getting an outline from your roommate’s brother’s friend’s website won’t help you on the exam. Yes, you should already be thinking about exams.

    Family Weekend

    The School of Law invites the parents and family members of law students to UT Austin’s campus the weekend of October 26–October 28, 2012 for Family Weekend. All of the UT Law events will take place on Saturday, October 27. Enjoy a continental breakfast with other parents. Take a student-guided tour of the building and a librarian-guided tour of the resource-rich library, which also houses many interesting pieces of artwork and antiques. A law school professor will present a mock class to demonstrate the kinds of things your student is learning, as well as how law is taught to our students. Plan to attend the barbecue luncheon and interact with faculty, administrators, students, and their family members.

    8:45 a.m.: Welcome and Continental breakfast Susman Godfrey Atrium

    9:15 a.m.: Building Tour Leaving from Susman Godfrey Atrium

    10:00 a.m.: Welcome with Dean Ward Farnsworth Auditorium

    11:00 a.m. Mock Class 2.137

    12:00 p.m.: Barbecue Luncheon Susman Godfrey Atrium $10 per family member, including UT Law students.

    1:00 – 1:45 p.m.: Tarlton Law Library Tour

    TX Feb. 2013 Bar Exam App Final Deadline

    Reminder for 3Ls planning to sit for the Texas February 2013 Bar Exam: in order to sit for the exam, your In-State Application to Take the TX Bar Exam must be post-marked by October 30. This deadline is strictly enforced.

    Applicants who have not yet filed their Declaration of Intention to Study Law must do so prior to or with their In-State Application.

    The timely postmark deadline for 1Ls and out-of-state transfers students to submit their TX Declaration of Intention to Study Law to Study Law to the Board of Law Examiners (BLE) is October 1st.

    All students (including 2L and 3L late-filers) who submit their Declaration by October 1st, 2012 are eligible to have their fingerprints taken on location at The School of Law on Tuesday, October 30th—Thursday, November 1st. The BLE will accept the fingerprints taken at this session, though it is after the 10/1 deadline.

    Qualifying students who wish to participate must follow the registration instructions and arrive promptly for their appointment with their FAST form filled out and proper ID on hand. Only registered students will be admitted.
