Mock Interview Program: Public Sector

The CSO hosts a public-sector Mock Interview Program (government, public interest, and public defense) each year to introduce 1Ls to the legal interviewing process. It also affords attorneys an opportunity to meet our exceptional students. Depending on availability, 2L and 3Ls may also participate in this program.

Practice interviews and attorney feedback are invaluable to our students, preparing them technically and instilling confidence as they embark on their 1L interview season.

Each mock interview will be 20-minutes in length followed by a 10-minute review.

We encourage you to review our Interviewing Policy ahead of the program. On the day of your mock interview, please dress professionally as you would for a real interview.

1L Sign-Up Period: 1Ls (only) may sign up for 3 total mock interviews
- Opens: Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. (CT)
- Closes: Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. (CT)
Final Sign-Up Period (All Class Years): All class years may sign up for any remaining spots for a total of up to 3 mock interviews
- Opens: Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at noon (CT)
- Closes: Thursday, October 31, 2024, at noon (CT)

Only a resume is required to sign up for a mock interview. We strongly encourage you to have one uploaded to TEX – Powered by 12Twenty ahead of the signup period.
Be sure to sign up early as interviews are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You are limited to 3 mock interviews total for this program.
Grades are not a consideration for a mock interview.
You are signing up for a specific date and time with a specific employer. Make sure to avoid class conflicts.

You may manually cancel a mock interview during any sign-up period by clicking the [Withdraw from Application] button featured on the respective employer schedule in TEX – Powered by 12Twenty.
To cancel a mock interview after the Final Sign-Up Period has closed, please submit an online cancellation request.

Student response to this program in the past has been overwhelming as they appreciate practicing for the “real thing.” As an employer, you will find that participating in our program is a wonderful way to meet our students and help prepare them for real interviews, as well as increase your recognition on campus.

There is no cost to participate in the program.

Students will submit their resumes and schedule their mock interview(s) online. Employers will then be able to review student resumes prior to their interview day. As interviewers will represent their actual employer, please be sure to update your employer’s TEX profile as students will be researching your organization.

Each mock interview is comprised of a 20-minute interview followed by a 10-minute review. In addition to providing feedback directly to each student, we ask that you take a moment to complete an online evaluation so we may gauge our students’ interview preparedness. Paper evaluations will be provided at check-in. If you prefer the online form, please bring your laptop. Evaluations will be returned to students after our office has reviewed them.

Space is limited to 15 employer schedules per day. Each office is limited to one schedule for this event. Interviews will be scheduled in Central Time.

Tuesday, August 27: Registration opens at noon (CT).
Tuesday, October 22: Registration closes at noon (CT).
Friday, November 1: Interview schedules available.
Friday, November 8: Mock Interview Program held in-person at the Law School & virtually via TEX – Powered by 12Twenty.

Mock interview schedule requests are approved on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration form will be available below on Tuesday, August 27 at noon (CT).

Note that the interview platform is not optimized for use on a smartphone, so please plan to use your desktop or laptop computer.
