Clinic students release report “Deadly Heat in Texas Prisons,” receive major media attention

On April 22, the Human Rights Clinic released a report “Deadly Heat in Texas Prisons”  In that report the Clinic documented the human rights violations committed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice due to the lack of proper cooling measures during the summer months.  At least 14 inmates had died since 2007 due to dangerous high temperatures inside Texas prisons.  Al Suarez and Kyle Shen (fall 2013 semester) and Sammy Chen and Alex Goeman (spring 2014) worked on this project.  The report received attention from many sources including Houston Chronicle, Austin American Statesman, Texas Tribune, Huffington post, NBC and Fox local news, and Texas Public Radio, among others.  It was even reported in the Daily News of Sri Lanka.
