Challenging Police Misconduct 2015

The Clinic is co-counseling with Javier Maldonado, P.C., to represent a Round Rock resident who was subject to a violent take-down and repeated hits by a TASER (electronic stun gun) during a police investigation of a neighborhood disturbance. After the man complained to the police about his treatment, the police re-opened his closed case and prosecuted him for interfering with the police officers’ actions. A jury acquitted him of the charges after trial. He is suing the Round Rock Police Department for excessive force and malicious prosecution in federal court. Separately, the Clinic is also working with the ACLU of Texas and Dallas-area advocates to advance police reform strategies.
