Federal Public Defender Internship

Students work under the supervision of experienced Assistant Federal Public Defenders in the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Texas on a weekly basis. By assisting federal public defenders with their work, students learn about attorney-client relationships, indictments, the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, plea bargaining, evidentiary and witness issues, and the discovery process. Typically students engage in significant legal research and writing, assist with trial preparation, and observe courtroom proceedings. An application is required.
