Texas Journal of Women, Gender and the Law Fall Write-On

It's Fall write-on time for the Texas Journal of Women, Gender and the Law! TJWGL is one of the few journals that allows 1Ls to write-on, which often leads to an editorial board position during your 2L and 3L years. We welcome ALL students to apply!

Representatives from dozens of public interest organizations and government agencies will be on hand to answer questions about what they do. Find out about volunteer opportunities, summer internships and paid positions with a variety of nonprofits, legal services providers and government agencies. All Texas Law students are encouraged to attend.

Cutting Crime, Costs, and Overcriminalization: The Conservative Case for Criminal Justice Reform

Join the Texas Federalist Society and guests Marc Levin (UT Law alumnus and Director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation's Center for Effective Justice) and Derek Cohen (Deputy Director for the Center for Effective Justice) to discuss the conservative and libertarian perspectives on criminal justice reform.

This is part of a day-long exploration of criminal justice reform in America. At lunch, guests will hear from the conservative and libertarian perspectives. Then, at 4:00 p.m., guests are encouraged to continue the conversation with Justice Goodwin Liu and others representing the progressive view.

ACS Conversation with Goodwin Liu

Join ACS for a conversation with Goodwin Liu, one of the most prominent young judges in the United States. Justice Liu was a Rhodes Scholar and clerk for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, then an attorney in various federal government roles, and then a member of the faculty at Berkeley Law. After Republicans filibustered President Obama's nomination of Liu to the Ninth Circuit, Liu was appointed to the California Supreme Court, where he now serves. Join us to hear from him directly about his life and career. Lunch will be provided.

Meet the Lawyers: Speed Networking with the Austin Bar Association

TNH 2.100 (Susman Godfrey Atrium)

Participating Texas Law students will have the opportunity to network one-on-one with members of the Austin Bar Association from a variety of practice areas during several short (8-10 minutes) speed networking rounds. We request that participating students commit to attending the entire speed networking portion of the event (5:45-6:30 p.m.). Please arrive by 5:30 p.m. as the program will start promptly at 5:45 p.m. Dress is business casual. Light refreshments will be served.

On Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m., online signup for Meet the Lawyers: Speed Networking takes place via Eventbrite and is on a first-come, first-served basis as space is limited!

Afterwards, from 6:30-7:00 p.m., Career Exploration Table Talk will be open to all Texas Law students. During Career Exploration Table Talk, members of the Austin Bar Association will be on hand to answer your questions about various practice areas.
