The University Of Texas School of Law will sponsor a “Passport Day” for anyone needing to procure a United States passport. Passport Day will take place on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. in the Susman-Godfrey Atrium. For fastest service, bring the required materials listed below.
To apply for a U.S. Passport you need the following:
- A completed application (form DS-11) for first-time and renewals. Available on site or online at travel.state.gov/passport
- Original proof of citizenship (birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or passport)
- Valid government issued ID (driver’s license, ID card, military ID, or a valid U.S. passport)
- A front and back copy of the valid ID
- One passport photo
- Passport Fees: Pay with checks or money orders only. Please note you need to make two separate payments:
- Passport Application Fee: $110.00 ($80 for minors) payable to U.S. Department of State.
- Execution Fee: $25.00 payable to The University of Texas at Austin
Routine passport processing time is four to six weeks.
Optional Services with additional fees:
- Expedited Processing: (passport received in ten to fourteen working days): $60 payable to U.S. Department of State
- Overnight return Delivery Service of Passport: $12.72 payable to U.S. Department of State
- Passport Card: $30 adult/$15 minor, fee payable to U.S. Department of State

Passport FAQ
What is the difference between the Passport Book (standard passport) and the Passport Card?
The Passport Book is valid for travel by air, land, or sea. The Passport Card is valid for travel only by land or sea and cannot be used to travel by air. Production of the Passport Card began in the summer of 2008 to expedite document processing at U.S. land and sea ports-of-entry when arriving from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
Where can I find a First-Time Passport Application?
First-time passport applicants will complete and submit Form DS-11, which you can find at http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds11/ds11_842.html. Your best option is to fill it out early, except for your signature, and bring it to Passport Day.
How do I renew my passport?
Bring the materials requested above, as well as your old passport. What if my passport was lost or stolen?
Complete everything and bring all materials as if applying for a new passport. The additional form to report a lost or stolen passport will be available on-site on Passport Day.
How long will it take to receive my passport?
Routine Service passports are received approximately four to six weeks from the time of application. Expedited Service passports are received ten to fourteen working days from the time of application.
How long is a passport valid, and when should I renew my passport?
If you were sixteen or older when the passport was issued, then your passport is valid for ten years. If you were fifteen or younger when the passport was issued, then your passport is valid for five years.
If possible, you should renew your passport approximately nine months before it expires. Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the date of your trip. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met.
