Texas Law is sad to report that Prof. David W. Robertson, holder of the William Powers, Jr. and Kim L. Heilbrun Chair in Tort Law, and a University Distinguished Teaching Professor, passed away last week after a brief illness.

Professor Robertson had a 50-year career of tremendous distinction as a teacher and scholar at the University of Texas School of Law.  He was one of the nation’s leading authorities on the law of admiralty and an important scholar in the field of torts.  He taught both subjects to many thousands of grateful students.  He memorably played the guitar for them, as well.

Dean Ward Farnsworth said, “David was a dear friend to several generations of loving colleagues, and one of our students’ most popular teachers. He will be missed.”

More information about a memorial event for Professor Robertson will be published as it becomes available.
