Q: How has serving as the Student Bar Association President impacted your experience in the Texas Law community?

I am so incredibly thankful for this position. It has given me the opportunity to get to know 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls, as well as engage with dozens of different student organizations. I am a strong believer that one of Texas Law’s best attributes is its people. Serving as the Student Bar Association president has allowed me to look beyond the academic excellence of our school (which is well established, of course!) and focus on the interpersonal quality of the student body and law school community as a whole.

Q: We have heard that you make an extra effort to focus on promoting mental health. Why is this an important topic for you?

I lost someone very important to me to suicide five years ago, and since then one of my primary focuses has been promoting mental health awareness. It is not uncommon for law students to prioritize their academic success above their mental and physical needs, so we are lucky to have a faculty and staff devoted to overall wellness at UT Law. Students also play an important part in setting the tone of our environment, and we can all be invaluable assets to one another’s well-being with the correct tools and mindset. I am excited to have the opportunity to serve as a liaison for mental health concerns through my position on the Center for Mental Health and Services Student Advisory Board on Main Campus.

Q: What did you wish you knew before becoming a law student at UT?

I wish I would have known how fast it would all go, and that law school itself is as much its own experience as it is a means to an end.
