For this edition of Texas Law’s Student Spotlight series, meet 3L Barbara Di Castro Young!
Q: Where did you do your undergraduate work, and what did you major in?
A: I graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas, and my major was International Political Economy.
What groups/clubs/internships have you participated in while at Texas Law?
I am the current president of the Chicano/Hispanic/Latino Law Student Association. I am also a senior editor for the Texas International Law Journal and a symposium chair for the Texas Hispanic Journal of Law & Policy. I have interned at the Securities and Exchange Commission in their D.C. office and at two different law firms.
What made you want to become a lawyer?
My biggest inspiration is my mother; she used to practice law and has always been my strongest supporter and source of inspiration in this journey.
What did you wish you knew before becoming a law student at UT?
I wish I knew how supportive UT Law is to all students. Professors and faculty all have an open-door policy and they truly mean it! I have been greeted with nothing but support and mentorship from the folks here! As a 3L, I wish I had realized that sooner.
Can you describe your favorite Texas Law moment?
One of my favorite moments has been participating in the Actual Innocence Clinic. Working on cases of those who are claiming actual innocence has been one of the most rewarding experiences that law school has provided me.
How do you envision your life after graduation this spring?
I will be working at Wick Phillips in Dallas, joining their corporate group.
