Texas Law Love Stories: Reunion Edition

Some Texas Law graduates leave Townes Hall with more than just a legal degree in hand. Over the years, many have left hand in hand with a partner for life.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we highlight several couples who first met as Texas Law students and have since been building their lives together. This year, we feature alumni couples with at least one spouse celebrating their Reunion class anniversary (from years ending in “5” and “0”).

Jillian and David Liu were paired together as mock trial teammates—on a team that competed at the Georgetown White Collar Crime Invitational—and after months of evening practices and trial prep, they became great friends. “I eventually worked up the courage to ask Jill on a date and our relationship blossomed from there,” recalls Dave.

Following his graduation and during Jill’s third year at Texas Law, they were a long-distance couple. Dave was in military training, first at Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning) in Georgia and then at the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The couple, who married in June 2023, now reside in the Washington, D.C., area. Jill is an associate at the DC boutique litigation firm Aegis Law Group LLP and Dave is a judge advocate in the U.S. Army, currently stationed at Fort Belvoir (Virginia).

John McIntire ’16

John and Rebekah McIntire met through mutual friends at a bar review in 2014 and say they “instantly hit it off.” After she graduated, Rebekah started her career in New York City, while John studied abroad in France during his final year of law school. They both moved to Houston in 2016, got engaged that October, and married on March 31, 2018.

“Texas Law holds an extra special place in our hearts and played a big role in the launch of our family,” says Rebekah.

The couple now live in Houston and have two beautiful girls, with another on the way in March. After starting their careers at law firms, they both moved to in-house positions. Currently, Rebekah is executive director in the legal department at pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Company and John is senior counsel at onshore renewables company Lightsource bp.

Diana and Chris Miller were introduced by mutual friends at a bar review and became close while taking secured credit together during spring of 2010. “Yes, we managed to flirt while talking about collateral and perfecting liens,” says Diana. As a bonus, Diana got to enjoy an extra year of law school social events by dating Chris and starting her career in Austin.

Chris moved to Houston in 2011 to join Bracewell LLP and Diane followed in 2013. They married that October and still live in Houston with their daughters, Nancy (8) and Carolyn (6). Chris is senior vice president and general counsel at Harvest Midstream Company, an oil and gas company, and Diana is a partner at Schwartz, Page & Harding, LLP.

“We loved our time at Texas Law and cherish the many friends we made while there,” Diana reflects.

Eric Rodriguez ’20

Mikayla and Eric Rodriguez met as 1Ls through close mutual friends in Eric’s section. They remained friends throughout law school, had one class together their final semester, and were both involved in the law school musical theater group Assault and Flattery. While their final semester was cut short by the pandemic, their friendship blossomed into a romance slowly after the Class of 2020’s “virtual graduation.”

After more than two years together, on a trip to New York City, Eric proposed to Mikayla at the top of Rockefeller Center, catching her completely by surprise. They tied the knot in December 2023 in Las Vegas surrounded by family and friends—with the friends who introduced them at Texas Law as members of the wedding party. Eric and Mikayla now reside in San Antonio with their dog, Maya. She is a compliance attorney With Norton Rose Fulbright and Eric is an assistant district attorney in Bexar County.

Annabeth Reeb ’20 and
Christian Trevino ’20

Annabeth Reeb and Christian Trevino ’20

Their 2L year had just begun when Annabeth and Christian started talking at bar review and soon became friends. They had met before on the intramural field, but she found him a little “too competitive” to get her attention! Over the next two years, Christian recruited Annabeth to some of his intramural teams, and a few even won championships.

Fast forward three years and Annabeth was at Sidley Austin in Dallas and Christian was at Cokinos Young in San Antonio. When he had a hearing in Fort Worth, Christian reached out to her and they ended up getting drinks … and drinks turned into dinner … and dinner turned into a weekend … and a weekend turned into a lifetime.

The couple is engaged, with their wedding planned for Dec. 27, 2025. Christian continues to work as an attorney at Cokinos Young, and Annabeth is now a senior associate in commercial litigation and disputes at Sidley.

“What happened at Texas Law ended up changing the world, or at least our world,” says Christian.

Alejandra Gonzalez ’20 and
Arya Taghdiri ’20

Alejandra Gonzalez and Arya Taghdiri ’20 on their wedding day.

Arya introduced himself to Alejandra on the very first day of law school at the Stubb’s BBQ mixer for new students. “From that moment on, we couldn’t stop laughing together,” says Alejandra. “It was an instant connection, and by our 2L year, we officially became a couple. We’ve been inseparable ever since.” One of her favorite memories was the law school Halloween Party, where she and Arya wore matching beige “morphsuits” without a clue about what they were supposed to be! Alejandra says that memory is a perfect snapshot of the joy and laughter they shared during their law school years.

After graduating, they faced the challenge of a year-long, long-distance relationship when Arya moved to Los Angeles to work at Quinn Emanuel, and Alejandra began her career at Bracewell in Houston. With that physical separation cementing their desire to build a life together, she relocated to L.A. He soon proposed at her favorite spot—the Huntington Library in Pasadena—and they were married in Mexico City a year later. Many fellow Lawhorns attended, including their best friend Bobby Kaltenbach 20, who officiated the ceremony. Today they are settled in L.A. where Arya is working as associate general counsel at OK Group, a global FinTech company, and she is corporate counsel at Hybrid Apparel.

“We often reflect on how pivotal Texas Law was for us—not just for our careers, but for the incredible community and memories it gave us,” says Alejandra. “The faculty, classmates, and experiences we had there will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we’re forever grateful for the role Texas Law played in bringing us together.”

Mark Callis Walker ’85

Kathleen and Mark Walker were introduced by a mutual law student friend, David Gerger ’85, who found out that they both had accepted jobs with firms in El Paso. The pair studied for the bar together and started dating at the same time. The following year, they got married in Austin then continued their legal careers in El Paso.

In 2024, the Walkers celebrated 38 years of partnership in marriage. Mark and Kathleen both worked at Dickinson Wright, where Kathleen practices business immigration law. Mark recently retired from there, and started his own arbitration/mediation firm, Walker Dispute Solutions. “I couldn’t have asked for a better friend and partner to travel through life,” says Kathleen, “and for that I am forever grateful to Texas Law.”
