The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice at the University of Texas School of Law is pleased to announce its ninth annual conference, “Impunity, Justice, and the Human Rights Agenda,” to take place February 7–8, 2013. This year’s conference will bring together scholars, human rights advocates, and policy makers from around the world to assess critically the human rights movement’s focus on anti-impunity.

The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice will present the next lecture in its Human Rights Happy Hour Speaker Series on October 16, 2012. Professor Mala Htun of the University of New Mexico will present a talk entitled “Politics of Inclusion: Women, Afrodescendants, and Indigenous Peoples in Latin America.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Tuesday, October 16, from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in the Sheffield Room (TNH 2.111) at the University of Texas School of Law. The Rapoport Center announces 2011 Summer Fellows

Eight students from the University of Texas School of Law have been selected by the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice as Rapoport Center Summer Fellows. They will fan out to nongovernmental and intergovernmental organizations in destinations as diverse as London; Washington, D.C.; and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Their projects include building the legal capacity of marginalized groups, assisting in war crimes prosecutions, representing victims of family violence, increasing compliance with international human rights treaties, and advocating for the rights of low-income workers.

Professor Karen Engle receives Fulbright Specialist Grant

The United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board have selected University of Texas School of Law Professor Karen L. Engle to receive a Fulbright Specialist grant for a project proposed by the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
