On Monday, April 16, 2012, the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice will host the last Human Rights Happy Hour of the spring semester. Professor Benjamin Gregg of the University of Texas at Austin will present a talk entitled “The Social Construction of Human Rights in Africa.”

Eight students from the University of Texas School of Law have been selected by the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice as Rapoport Center Summer Fellows. They will fan out to nongovernmental and intergovernmental organizations in destinations as diverse as London; Washington, D.C.; and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Their projects include building the legal capacity of marginalized groups, assisting in war crimes prosecutions, representing victims of family violence, increasing compliance with international human rights treaties, and advocating for the rights of low-income workers.

On Monday, March 7, 2011, the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice will host the second Human Rights Happy Hour of the spring semester: a screening of the film Nostalgia de la Luz (Memory of the Light). The screening, which is free and open to the public, will take place this afternoon at the University of Texas School of Law, TNH 2.140 from 3:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.

On Monday, September 27, 2010, the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice will host Professor Daniel Brinks, associate professor of government at the University of Texas at Austin, and Varun Gauri, a World Bank senior economist, at the first Human Rights Happy Hour of the Fall 2010 semester. Brinks and Gauri will co-present a lecture entitled “Assessing the Distributive Impact of Social and Economic Rights in Litigation: More Litigation = More Inequality?”
