Students will help immigrants who came to the United States as children (aka “DREAMers”) and who remain without permanent immigration status apply for protection from deportation, as well as authorization to work legally, under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In the immediate wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 2020 decision invalidating the Trump administration’s decision to end DACA, the administration continued to limit the program. A federal judge recently ordered USCIS, the federal immigration agency in charge of applications, to fully restore the program. As a result, immigrants who previously were unable to apply for DACA now can do so.
