Students will attend eviction proceedings in Austin Justice of the Peace courts via Zoom and help individuals who are facing eviction navigate virtual JP Court eviction dockets. Students will help individuals in eviction proceedings complete financial intake forms and connect with rental assistance resources. In some cases, students also may help individuals complete requests for rental assistance.
Organization
Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas
Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS) was founded by Austin attorneys who were concerned by inequity in the civil legal system and observed that the high cost of legal services meant poor people could not get the help they needed, even for critical issues like divorce, child custody, consumer fraud, and housing matters. VLS mobilizes private attorney volunteers to give back to their community through donations of time and legal expertise.
