Students will help equip parents in East Austin with information about their federal special education rights and how to access appropriate services for their children. The project aims to address disparities in special education that adversely impact communities of color and to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline by addressing students’ educational needs. The Special Education Project involves a collaboration between INCLUDE, Disability Rights Texas, members of the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society, and Excellence and Advancement, a nonprofit grassroots organization that aims to break the school-to-prison pipeline.
