Students will counsel the parents (or other caregivers/supporters) of high school students in special education or other young adults with disabilities about guardianship and probate, with an emphasis on a new option in state law to enter into Supported Decision Making (SDM) agreements. SDM agreements and other alternatives to guardianship (medical and statutory powers of attorney, etc.) allow individuals with disabilities to maintain maximum control over their lives, and avoid unnecessary and costly probate proceedings.
