For this edition of Texas Law’s Student Spotlight series, meet 2L Jordan Schuck!
Q: What made you choose Texas Law?
A: In addition to its superb faculty, location, and value, I chose Texas Law because—while graduates from other schools told me law school was some of the worst years of their lives—UT Law grads told me it was the best years of their lives.
What have you learned from your experience working in the Criminal Defense Clinic?
In the Criminal Defense Clinic, I’ve learned that advocacy is as much about understanding people than it is about the law—whether it’s understanding your client, opposition, or fact finder.
What did you wish you knew before becoming a law student at UT?
I wish I knew that 1L isn’t as scary as it seems thanks to how collegial, supportive, and outgoing people are at UT.
What do you like about going to law school in Austin?
Besides having endless outdoor activities, food trucks, and disco spots, Austin is great because it’s full of smart, young professionals. It’s also compact, making the city feel like an extension of our campus.
What is your biggest motivator to keep pursuing this career?
I’m pursuing this career because it lets me fight for people in ways no other career can.
