Eleven Law School students have been selected by the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice as Rapoport Center Fellows for summer and fall 2013. They will work with nongovernmental and intergovernmental organizations in the United States and abroad. Their projects include aiding human rights victims and political refugees, researching civil rights and civil liberties, assisting international courts and tribunals in prosecuting human rights and humanitarian violations, advocating for individuals with disabilities, and pursuing impact litigation on behalf of farmworkers.

The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice at the University of Texas School of Law is pleased to announce its ninth annual conference, “Impunity, Justice, and the Human Rights Agenda,” to take place February 7–8, 2013. This year’s conference will bring together scholars, human rights advocates, and policy makers from around the world to assess critically the human rights movement’s focus on anti-impunity.

The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice will present the next lecture in its Human Rights Happy Hour Speaker Series on October 16, 2012. Professor Mala Htun of the University of New Mexico will present a talk entitled “Politics of Inclusion: Women, Afrodescendants, and Indigenous Peoples in Latin America.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Tuesday, October 16, from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in the Sheffield Room (TNH 2.111) at the University of Texas School of Law. Light refreshments will be served.

The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice at the University of Texas School of Law has named three law students as Rapoport Center Human Rights Scholars for the 2012–2013 school year. Mark Dawson, Vanshika Vij, and Meredith Weaver were selected by a committee of international law faculty on the basis of their academic credentials, leadership skills, and dedication to human rights work. Each of the students will receive a scholarship.

Eleven University of Texas School of Law students have been selected by the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice as Rapoport Center Fellows for summer and fall 2012. They will work with nongovernmental and intergovernmental organizations in destinations as diverse as Mumbai, India; Washington, D.C.; and Guatemala City, Guatemala. Their projects include investigating cases of disappeared persons, implementing corporate accountability campaigns, assisting in genocide prosecutions, researching litigation on prisoners’ rights, and building the legal capacity of impoverished populations.

The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice at the University of Texas School of Law is pleased to announce its eighth annual conference, “Property Rights and the Human Rights Agenda,” to take place March 1–2, 2012. This multidisciplinary and comparative conference will explore the ambivalent relationship between human rights and property and the extent to which the right to property might advance a human rights agenda.

On Monday, February 20, 2012, the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice will host the first Human Rights Happy Hour of the Spring semester. Professor Jorge Contesse of the Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago, Chile, will present a talk entitled “Inter-American Constitutionalism: The Creation and Internalization of Human Rights.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 3:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m. in TNH 3.142 at the University of Texas School of Law.

On Monday, November 14, 2011, the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice will host a Human Rights Happy Hour featuring Professor Henry Steiner of Harvard University. Steiner will present a talk entitled “Muslims in Europe: Multiculturalism, Cultural Clash, Human Rights.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Sheffield Room (TNH 2.111) at the University of Texas School of Law.
