What have you gained from being a fellow in the Law and Business Program?

The courses I have taken through the Law and Business Program have allowed me to gain practical experience through various assignments that I know will be helpful when I return for my second year as a summer associate position in the Global Finance Group at Sidley in Dallas. I am very excited for our NYC ā€œminimesterā€ in March when we will get to meet with and learn from in-house attorneys and professionals at places like the New York Times, the MET, and several private equity firms and investment banks.

You were an officer in the University of Texas chapter of Delta Delta Delta. Tell us how that experience shaped your undergraduate years and what skills you sharpened as a result of holding a leadership role.

Being an officer in UT Tri Delta taught me how to lead a big, diverse group where everyone works and communicates differently. I learned to adjust my leadership style, communicate clearly, and make tough decisions with empathy. Most of all, it helped me gain confidence and be comfortable taking responsibility.

What made you decide to stay on the Forty Acres for law school?
I had such a positive undergraduate experience here that I had to ask myself how I could miss a chance to spend three additional years at UT. I seriously love it here. The people, the school spirit (especially around sports), top-tier facilities, and outstanding faculty made my offer to attend Texas Law a clear choice.

What has been the best surprise about law school?

The best surprise has been how much people genuinely want you to succeed. Even though law school is challenging, the effort you put in really shows in what you learn and how confident you become. It feels rewarding in a way I didn’t fully expect.

What is your favorite book that you’d recommend to your friends — and why?

ā€œThe Da Vinci Codeā€ is probably my favorite book to recommend to friends because it’s fast-paced, smart, and impossible to put down. It mixes history, mystery, and puzzles in a way that keeps you constantly thinking.

How do you envision your life after Texas Law?

After Texas Law, I see myself in a career I’m excited about while continuing to learn every day. I plan to return to the Global Finance Group at Sidley after graduation, where I have been a summer associate. I want a life that balances challenging and meaningful work while allowing time for friends, family and new adventures. Travel is something that has definitely shaped my life and I’m hoping to check off my last two continents—Australia and Antarctica—soon. Experiencing new cultures has been so fun and has taught me so much, and I know it will continue to impact both my personal and professional lives. In fact, I’m hoping to work abroad eventually.
