UT Law’s Students for the Arts cosponsors free legal clinic for local artists, March 31, 2011
Law Students for the Arts (LSfTA), a student group at the Law School, with support from Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts (TALA), will offer a free legal clinic for low-income artists on Thursday, March 31, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the offices of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP at 600 Congress Avenue, Suite 2400. -

The University of Texas School of Law and the Chicano/Hispanic Law Students’ Association (CHLSA) will celebrate the organization’s fortieth anniversary with a banquet that includes a keynote address by former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. UT Law alumnus and prominent trial attorney Joseph D. Jamail Jr., ’52, will introduce Richardson at the sold-out event. -

Law School team wins national championship at Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition
The University of Texas School of Law interscholastic team won the national championship in the 2011 Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition. Team members Anthony Arguijo, ’11; Sergio Davila, ’11; and Omar Ochoa, ’11, beat Arizona State University in the final round of the competition to win the championship. The team also won the award for best respondent’s brief. -

On Monday, March 7, 2011, the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice will host the second Human Rights Happy Hour of the spring semester: a screening of the film Nostalgia de la Luz (Memory of the Light). The University of Texas School of Law and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City have announced a new dual-degree program that will allow students to earn both a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas School of Law and a Licenciatura en Derecho (Mexican professional degree in law) from ITAM. Lawrence Sager, dean of the UT Law School, and Jorge Cerdio, dean of the Department of Law at ITAM, signed the agreement at a ceremony in UT Law’s Susman Academic Center on March 5, 2011.
